Srinagar/Islamabad (KNN): Advocate Babar Qadri has said that it is in the broader interest of the India, Pakistan, China and all the countries of the region to resolve their disputes as soon as possible to pave the way for powerful, unified and economically sound South Asia.
While addressing to an online Webinar organized by The Blog Times in collaboration with International Human Rights Observers (IHRO), Institute of Peace & Development (INSPAD) and Kashmir News Network (KNN) the President of JK People’s Justice Party (Srinagar) introduced that he is hailing from downtown Srinagar which is considered as the heart of Srinagar city and consequently the heart of political dispute of Jammu and Kashmir.
He said that he started his political activism in 2005 when he laid the foundation of Kashmir university students union and thereafter, in consequence of his political career and stand, he faced four life attacks. He shared that he stood by all the odds because of his political schooling which he imbibed from his father who remained underground along with his family from 1992 till 2000. As such only few can imagine the agony and pain which he and his family have undergone through.
While talking about his visits to Pakistan, he said that he has the honor to be in Pakistan four times since 2012. Moreover, he can’t forget the precious memories of his acquaintance with Sardar Khalid Ibrahim Marhoom who introduced him to new insights in politics and he consider himself quite fortunate in a sense that was was able to interact with the Indian intelligentsia and bureaucratic establishment wherein he found the affection and love of great intellectuals like Mani Shankar Ayyer, kapil kak , O.P.shah , Kunan Gopinathan and many others.
The Adv. said that he is thankful to his comrades in Jammu Kashmir like that of Babu singh , GN shaheen sahib , Parvaiz Shah , Abid Bukhari and Abdul Rashid Laway and others who are really the people working for the cause.
The fact of the matter is this and it is not an exaggeration that the road of south Asian development and betterment passes through Jammu and Kashmir.
After going through the aforementioned circumstances which include the underground period of his family, physical and psychological torture faced by his father and other dear ones he shared following points in regards to the webinar on “Kashmir Conflict”.
A. The Jammu and Kashmir dispute is an outcome of the partition of united India that happened because of communal intolerance and the seeds of which were sown by the Britishers when the Morley Minto proposed the separate electorate and the so-called secular congress kept mum which looked at it as an opportunity with majoritarian mind set for strengthening the majority vote bank.
B. The division of India was followed by the division of Jammu and Kashmir, unfortunately dividing the state and its people on fabricated lines.
C. The dispute of Jammu and Kashmir is fundamentally trilateral in nature having the people of Jammu and Kashmir as the primary party to this dispute but till date India and Pakistan has treated and pursued this dispute through ultra-nationalistic, unilateral or bilateral methodology that has failed till date.
D. The dispute of Jammu and Kashmir has entered into an entirely new political realm in the post covid world. In this new world, the world in general and the south East Asian region in particular has been forced by the prevailing circumstances to relook at the new challenges and opportunities.
E. As far challenges are concerned, poverty, hunger, illiteracy and extremely poor healthcare infrastructure have exposed the vulnerabilities of the poor nations that have created a sense of insecurity, helplessness and deprivation.
F. the above situation is further complicated by the shockwaves of nuclear insecurity whose epicenter lies in the very dispute of Jammu and Kashmir and whose impact would be felt across the continents if god forbid things get out of control.
G. under current circumstances it seems quite obvious that the dispute of Jammu and Kashmir is causing realignment of the countries into rival blocs. The current political and military showdown between china and India across the LAC has the potential to engulf whole of the South Asia as it seems impossible to restrict the war within the boundaries of two countries once it gets started. Moreover, let us not forget the potential of Pakistani, Nepalese, Bangladeshi , Bhutanese ,Iranian ,Sri Lankan and Afghani alignment with China therefore creating a hostile neighborhood for India which is in no way good for the overall peace and security of the south Asia. Same is the case with Pakistan which has become economically vulnerable following its rift with Saudi Arabia over the Kashmir dispute. What a misery! When these countries should have been thinking to invest more and more in basic health infrastructure to save the precious lives of their fellow countrymen they are busy in purchasing the war machinery worth billions of dollars in the form of Rafale jets and other military equipment.
After discussing the challenges in the post covid world, he said that he would like to foreground the solution part of the dispute as precisely as possible:
The South Asian people have an opportunity to think big after facing a monster in the form of Covid which is broader integration of the South Asian Region on European Union model by taking into consideration the security and economic needs of the participant countries. In this regard the honorable and voluntary participation of India in CPEC project could pave the way for emergence of the South Asia as global power centre for coming centuries.
Babar Qadri said that, at this point of time, it is in the broader interest of the India, Pakistan, China and all the countries of the region to resolve their disputes as soon as possible to pave the way for powerful, unified and economically sound South Asia. There is no alternative to this option. Beyond the region foreign powers could never become a part of the solution to The South Asian disputes. Till dispute like Kashmir is there, the South Asia is never going to emerge as unified political and economic power. The fact of the matter is this and it is not an exaggeration that the road of south Asian development and betterment passes through Jammu and Kashmir.
